9:37 am - who is hancock?
i go to the movies fairly regularly and i watch television enough to see plenty of summer movie trailers. with that being said...why is it i see all these best buy "commercials" for a movie staring will smith called hancock, but i have never once seen a real trailer or teaser even? according to imdb it comes out july 2nd. what a weird marketing ploy...

4:08 pm - why sir, you were amazing
last friday my friends and i went to a sir elton john concert. can you believe it, elton john in pensacola?! it was amazing! he played all my favorites and then some. one of my friends and i wore big, funny glasses and i sang along and danced. there was no opening act; he played for two hours straight and then came back for a two song encore. it was great!

super sweet set listCollapse )

then saturday i drove to atlanta so i could take my little sister to see the lion king at the civic center. yet again...amazing! when we were walking towards the venue i told my sister we were going to see the most expensive puppet show ever. it was completely worth it though! our seats were 10th row orchestra level so we could see people's faces really well. the sets were very, very cool. there's one point where a "lake" is in the middle of the stage and then a drought comes and the lake dries up into the center of the floor. it deviated a little from the movie and added some new songs, but by no means did it take away from the story at all. it was awesome!

10:19 am - back to hawaii
a little over a week ago i was back in hawaii. i went to go visit josh(hawaii boyfriend) for a few days. it was great once i finally got there...my original flight was canceled which made me miss my connection to hawaii so i had to catch a later flight which made me 6 hours late. i was quite upset, but once i got there everything was all better.

i only had three requests for my visit, otherwise everything was left up to him. i wanted to have a cup of coffee everyday, visit the mall i had worked at to catch up with some old coworkers, and play mahjong one day in the afternoon. the coffee was delicious, catching up talking story was great, and now josh is a little addicted to mahjong himself.

the things he had planned were all a surprise:

we had dinner with friends at the last tiki bar in hawaii
we had drinks with friends at one of our old hangouts
we danced to live jazz music at one of our favorite bars
we swam in a shark cage
we flew to maui for the weekend
we viewed the early morning above the clouds atop haleakala crater
we drove the road to hana and hiked, had a picnic, and saw waterfalls along the way
we had dinner at hawaii's only 5 star restaurant
we went to hawaii's best vietnamese pho shop

the best thing he planned was all the time we got to spend together. the whole trip was relaxing and great. i can actually admit that i enjoyed being in hawaii this last time.

9:07 am
this morning the three superintendents decided they all had a craving for chili dogs. it's 9 in the freakin' morning and you have a craving for a chili dog?! they all got one from sonic and now my entire office reeks of grossness. i love chili dogs, but not this early in the morning and certainly not having my office smell like them.

8:40 am - my whole body aches
yesterday was one of the worst days i've had at work in a long time. granted i haven't really "worked" in a long time, but that's besides the point. i got a phone call around 8am yesterday from a guy asking about his tile samples and if they had been approved yet or not. i had no recollection of receive said tile. i searched the mall and found 8 large boxes all addressed to me in a mall storage area. no one ever informed me of these boxes though and apparently they had been there for the past three weeks. i asked my superintendent to help me move them from this area to our little office on the other side of the mall. once in our office, i proceeded to unpack every box, inspect and stamp each piece of tile, and then repack each box. did i mention that each of these boxes were 50 pounds a piece? that means i had to pick up 50 pounds of tile, unfurl it on the floor (they were rolled up in tons of bubble wrap), stamp them, roll them back up, and pick of the 50 pounds of tile yet again to put it back in the box. meanwhile, my superintendent was sitting at his desk playing spider solitaire. he actually laughed a couple of times. i told him that i would remember this and when he was having to do something hard i would do the same. then the conversation went on like this:

"I'm about to do the hardest part of my job." - superintendent
"Oh? Go outside and smoke?" - me
"No, walk all the way across the office to get a cup of water." - superintendent

he then steps over what i'm doing to get to the water cooler which is literally 15 feet away from his desk.

two hours later when i finish all of this nonsense i pick up an empty box and some of the leftover bubble wrap and proceed to walk towards the dumpster. he seriously had the audacity to ask if i needed help with that. i said "no, i'll get the rest later." then when i had turned around from throwing that stuff away there he was with an armful of bubble wrap. worthless!

on a happier note, my new pensacola friends called me up last night to go to dinner and a movie. dinner ran long, though, so we decided to play bingo instead and get this...i won! i was so excited! i've been playing bingo once in awhile for the past two years now and i finally won. it definitely made up for the earlier part of my day.

current mood: achy

9:08 am - i'm not coming back...
so i got a phone call friday just before lunch and my new boss tells me that i'm moving to pensacola, fl. i'll be working on a mall renovation which means i won't be back to atlanta to live for at least another year:( i made it very clear to my company that i wanted to be back in atlanta and i believe they tried, but we just don't have any projects for me to work on there. i'm in atlanta right now for a few days before i have to move again.

on the bright side...my best friend brad lives in pensacola now too. we'll be living in the same appartment complex and where he works is just down the street from the mall i'll be working on. i think that's pretty exciting!

3:24 pm - i'm baaack...sort of
my dad and i picked up my car from the oakland, ca shipyard a week ago today. we then started off on our cross country road trip to atlanta.

here are the highlights:
drove over the golden gate bridge
won $100 in reno playing poker
drove through the salt flats of utah
took funny pictures in front of the salt lake temple
literally saw antelope playing in a stream and buffalo roaming
took a tour to tap into the rockies
saw a big ass picasso

it took almost five days, 2900 miles, 767 songs on my ipod, and 8 stops for gas. my hybrid got 39.4 mpg. that's not as impressive as it should be, but i was also driving between 70 and 80 the whole way.

my stint in atlanta was too brief. i got there saturday around lunch time and left sunday afternoon. i had dinner and spent the night at odie's before continuing on to little rock, ar. that's right...i somehow got sent to arkansas for a couple weeks! i had an elvis day yesterday before i got here. i stopped off in tupelo, ms to visit his birthplace and then ended my day taking a tour of graceland. all i've got to say is elvis fans are fuckin' nuts!

so i'm here for now and hope to be getting back to atlanta soon. i've almost doubled the millage on my car in the past week. here's to hoping that all of this traveling comes to an end soon.

4:03 pm - bionic eyes
so i had my very last eye check up ever. it went really well. i still see 20/20, no itchiness, no "halo effect" at night...my eyes are officially perfect! i have to say it was definitely money well spent. i couldn't promote the procedure enough for anyone who is sick of the rigmarole of contacts or glasses.

12:05 pm - for the auburn set
so how is it that the guy who talks the least is the one getting the most comments these days? either he's finally coming out of his shell or we're trying to get as much out of him as we can anyway we can!

i am officially moving back to georgia at the end of the month. i have to ship all of my stuff back to california by the end of this week so it'll be ready to join me on my cross country journey back to the south.

would anyone like anything from hawaii while i'm still here? going once, going twice...

2:10 pm - my job
today was a super fun day at work. i drove the forklift around for a bit. there aren't too many things that feel as empowering as moving hundreds of pounds of materials at a time. i really, really appreciate that i don't just have a desk job...that i get to walk around and "participate" too.

a not so super fun thing happened today too though. i was walking through the mall with a hammer and drill so i could un-crate the giant shipments i was previously moving around outside. of course it was lunch break and of course a lot of the guys working on another construction project here at the mall saw me walk by and of course they sort of whistled. boys are stupid.

1:27 pm - may day is lei day in hawaii
back in 1928 a poet/journalist decided there should be a day set aside to celebrate the hawaiian spirit, especially the making/wearing of leis. thus the song "may day is lei day in hawaii" was born. today there are various festivities around the island to take part in. there was the free lei giveaway at one of the malls (not my mall of course...i've never gotten a lei:(, but that's another story), there is a may day festival at the end of waikiki, and there is also a may day concert at the outdoor "shell" where hawaiian music and hula (music and dance) will be performed.

what am i doing to celebrate? my friends and i are going drinking. don't worry...i'll only drink mai tais, pina coladas and hawaiian beer to keep in the spirit;)

3:37 pm - taco bell, why do you mock me so?!
i've been known to eat at taco bell from time to time. i've also been known to have to give up eating at taco bell for lent one year to try to curb the fact that i'd end up there at least 3-4 times a week. let's face it...i just can't stay away from the border. last night i decided to take them up on their new 99 cent zesty nachos. my favorite menu item of their is a nacho supreme (no sour cream, no tomatoes) and these zesty nachos seemed very similar, but with a kick. i walked down to my local taco bell to partake in this new flavor only to be demanded a sum of $1.49 instead of $0.99! i couldn't believe it. the only new ingredient in this item is "zesty jalapeno cheese sauce" and it's just a squirt, not even a dousing all over. so i had to pay a 50% markup on some drips of jalapeno like flavoring so you could ship a couple cases of the stuff over to hawaii?! well, i ate it, and it was only mildly zesty...i'm sticking to my nacho supremes.

5:05 pm - my retinas are burning!
well, they aren't right now...but they were earlier this morning. i got my LASIK surgery done today and i can already see almost perfectly. some things are slightly blurry, but that should go away in a couple days.

the whole procedure was pretty painless. they had to insert an eye speculum much like the one used in a clockwork orange(personally i thought it was pretty cool to be able to relate so closely to one of my all-time favorite movies). they also put this vacuum on my eye to help with cutting a flap off the top layer of my eye. your vision goes completely dark at that point from all of the pressure. that part was a little scary, but it only lasted about 30 seconds.

all in all the surgery went off without a hitch. now i can see without glasses or contacts! i could actually see pretty well, much better than without my glasses, right away. i'm super excited about the whole thing...especially since now i won't have adam always scolding me about my contact misuse.

12:12 pm - yuppie is a four letter word
the other day i was chatting with my mom about my latest purchase...a brand new wool coat. it's beautiful, fits me like a glove, and was on sale so i couldn't resist. granted i won't even be able to think about wearing it until sometime next year, but it's just that wonderful of a coat. my mom had asked me how much it was and i told her it was a steal at only $250...that's $100 off! then my mom went on to say that i should splurge every once in awhile, that i deserve it since i'm a yuppie now. i was completely offended! i have never heard anyone use the word yuppie as a compliment. it definitely has a negative connotation if you ask me. my mom tried to reassure me that she didn't mean it in a bad way, just that i'm young and have a good paying job. i wish there was a different word for that...something not so 80s wall street.
